The Civil Status Registry of Bamenda City Council like any other in Cameroon is under the general supervision of BUNEC (The National Bureau of Civil Status which is a Public Administrative Establishment with legal personality and financial autonomy. It was created by law no.2011 / 011 of 06 May 2011 modifying and supplementing certain provisions of ordinance no81 / 02 of 29 June 1981 relating to the organization of civil status and various provisions relating to the status of natural persons).
For marriage certification, a declaration of intention to marry is registered at the Civil Status Registry by those concern and publish by the Civil Status Secretary for at least one month before the marriage takes place with issuance of marriage certificates.
For birth certification, a birth attestation from the hospital, health centre or clinic in which a child is born is a primary requirement and the attestation is then declared at the Civil Status Registry within ninety (90) days from the day of birth. For birth certificates for children above three months, a declaratory judgement emanating from the high court is required to establish certification at the Civil Status Registry and same applies to adults who birth certificates are lost.
For Death Certification, a death attestation is required either from the health institution in which the person died or from the quarter head in which the person lived within ninety (90) days from his or her death and this has to be done by a relative of the deceased. For death cases not declared within ninety (90) days, a declaratory judgement is required from the high court to obtain a death certification from the Civil Status Registry and same applies to lost death certificates.
